Vauxhall Mokka-e Hatchback: A Simple Compact Electric SUV

Vauxhall is on the path to electrify its entire vehicle lineup. It aims to have an electric version of each of its cars by 2024. It launched Corsa E, its first electric hatchback at the start of 2021. Subsequently, they launched the Mokka E which is an electric version of the Internal Combustion Engine Vauxhall Mokka. Vauxhall and Opel were formerly part of the General Motors family of cars. Now, the PSA group owns these companies. The Mokka E will have the Opel brand name in Europe. Whereas, in the United Kingdom Mokka E will sell as a Vauxhall car. The Mokka is compatible with three types of power sources. The car is available in Petrol, Diesel, and battery-electric variants.

The technology of the car is not new and is developed over decades. This car is comfortable to drive. If one has driven any Vauxhall car, they will be familiar with all the controls in the car. The battery-electric version that is the Mokka E replaces the Engine and Fuel tank with batteries, motors, and several onboard computers. Overall, this vehicle is a convenient car to drive for an average driver. In addition to this, it is sustainable and doesn’t pollute the environment.

Mokka E has a battery capacity of 50KWh of which 45 KWh is usable. The car has a 100 KW motor which can produce 134 bhp and 260 N-m of torque. Vauxhall claims that the car can go from 0-62 miles per hour in 8.7 seconds. The car has a range of 201 miles or 332 kilometers on a full charge according to the WLTP cycle. The maximum speed of the Mokka E is 93 miles per hour or 150 kilometers per hour.

Mokka E is a sister car of the earlier Vauxhall Corsa E. This car is also a family car like the Corsa E and can comfortably seat a family of four. The back seats of the car are cozy and can fit two six-foot-tall humans. The car has two USB sockets at the back for the passengers to charge a mobile phone. There is no central armrest. The car has a storage capacity of 360 liters when the seats are up. When the car seats are put down the storage space increases to 1105 liters which is ample storage for a small electric hatchback. The charging cables are stored beneath the trunk in the under carriage.

Charging Support for Vauxhall Mokka-e

The user can charge the car by ChadeMo port as well as a CCS port. CCS port has the capacity to charge the car at a slower rate than the ChadeMo port. There is a small cover on the CCS charging port. The user can set the charging time for the Mokka E using buttons provided besides the charging port. The driver can use CCS port for 11 KW AC charging and the ChadeMo port for DC fast charging.

Variants

The Vauxhall Mokka is available in petrol, diesel, and electric variants. The exterior of all these vehicles is the same. The Mokka E is a bulky car and has sharp corners. The car has a good ground clearance and the driver can drive it on rough roads as well.

The designers have used plastic in the interiors which is what one might expect in a car like the Mokka E. The company has used carbon fiber plastic which looks similar to real carbon fiber. The aesthetics of the car are in line with what a customer can expect in such cars. The materials used are similar to leather.

Infotainment System

There is an infotainment screen in the center console which gives the driver all the essential data that is required. It also includes a stereo. This 10-inch screen is compatible with Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto. There is a second screen bigger than the central touch screen in front on the driver. The satellite navigation, speed, and other essentials like battery state of charge are visible here.

The petrol Mokka costs 20000 pounds. The price of the electric Mokka, that is the Mokka E is 30000 pounds after the federal tax credit that the British government offers on new electric vehicles. The Mokka E is available in 16″, 17″, and 18″ alloy wheels. Some variants of the car have bi-colored alloy wheels. The top-end Mokka E includes heated seats which are also massage chairs. The company has also provided a wireless front charger in between the front seats.

There are four models of the Vauxhall Mokka E which are SE edition (Red), SRi Premium (Gray-Red), Elite Premium (Blue), Ultimate (Green). The top-end version of the Mokka E are equipped with IntelliLux LED lights for better visibility and smart lighting. The car has adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, 180-degree rearview camera, Advanced Park Assist, Driver Drowsiness alert, and Automatic Emergency Braking. These functions give the driver a better driving experience.

These cars are one of the first electric vehicles that are affordable to the general public. If the price of the car is comparable with its petrol variant there will be direct competition between the two Mokkas. This car is available in The United Kingdom and European Union and is manufactured all across Europe under the brand names of Vauxhall and Opel.
