The All New Audi Q4 E-Tron Electric SUV Is Ready For Showtime

The world is heading towards an electric future with hybrid and battery electric vehicles. New companies are popping up which manufacture electric vehicles such as Tesla, Lucid, Rivian, and Lordstown. The automobile giants like Volkswagen, General Motors, BMW, Mercedes, and Audi are also trying to step into the electric vehicle market. Many of these companies are phasing out Internal Combustion Engine vehicles all together.

Audi has launched its e-tron series in a bid to step into the electric vehicle sector. Currently, the e-tron series hosts three types of cars; the sportback SUV, the Audi e-tron GT, and the Audi A6 e-tron. Audi unveiled the e-tron series concept in 2015 at the Frankfurt auto show and the first deliveries began in 2018.

Recently Audi started deliveries of the Audi Q4 e-tron. This car is an electric version of Audi’s famous SUV range. The Audi Q4 e-tron was first unveiled in 2019 at the Geneva Auto Show. Audi launched the production version of the car at the end of 2020. Audi has just confirmed the launch of its Q4 e-tron in the United States of America.

The Q4 e-tron has two trims; the standard trim and the sport back. The sport back is more aerodynamic and curvier than the standard trim. Both the trims are really muscular and look very agile as well.

Audi is famous for its huge grills to cool the engine. Audi has left the Internal Combustion Engine in the past but not the grill. Q4 e-tron is fitted with a fake grill under the front bonnet just for a good aesthetic. The design exhibits many curves and deep lines to make the car look agile and aggressive. The Q4 is available in 8 colors and two types of finishes namely Solid and Metallic finish.

There are two kinds of wheel trims available for the Q4 e-tron. Both trims are 20-inch wheels with a difference in color. The wheels are either all chrome or chrome and grey. The tires and wheels are strong enough for off-road trail driving.

Exterior

The most coveted exterior feature of the Audi Q4 e-tron is the matrix LED headlights. The matrix LED headlights are a breakthrough in headlight technology. They consist of digital light signatures, dynamic light sequencing, and dynamic indicators. This means that the drivers are able to customize the light beams coming out of the headlights. They can also project indicators right in front of the car which will help the driver navigate. Some types of matrix lights have lane sensing features so that the driver can stay in lane and not break lane discipline.

When the headlights are on high beams and a car comes towards the Audi, it automatically stops glare by switching off LEDs that project light into the eyes of the driver in the car coming towards the Audi. This is an important safety feature and will surely reduce accidents due to glare that occur on dark roads and highways.

Interior

The interior of the car is angular and sporty. The steering wheel is hexagonal in shape, unlike a regular car. The buttons on the steering wheel have touch and tap input and the drivers can use their preferred way. As the buttons are touch-sensitive, there are chances of unwanted presses.

The car has a 12 Volt charging socket, USB-C ports, and also wireless charging capability for some of the newer mobile phones. The seats of the Audi feel very luxurious and the front seats have multiple configurations as per the driver’s wishes. The car has a sufficient number of cup holders for all your bottles and cups. The Audi can comfortably fit 5 people and the floor is completely flat unlike in traditional ICE cars.

Audi Q4 e-tron comes with the standard Audi entertainment system which is easy to use. Unlike many other new cars, Audi has kept the climate control system separate from the infotainment system which keeps the driver’s focus on the road. The infotainment system has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay inbuilt and the drivers can choose whichever they feel comfortable using.

The car has a 585-liter boot space in the back which is sufficient for a lot of luggage. Under the trunk, there is a concealed compartment that houses the charging wires, adaptors, an extra wheel, and other breakdown equipment. Unlike other electric vehicles, the Audi Q4 e-tron doesn’t have storage in the front which is really weird.

Unlike Tesla, the Audi doesn’t have cameras that are standard. The cameras can be installed with an add-on comfort package which also comes with Adaptive Cruise Control. There is no reverse parking camera in the top-end car which is included. Only sensors are present to guide the driver while driving in reverse.

Battery

The battery of the e-tron has a capacity of 95 KWh out of which 76.6 KWh is usable with a range of above 400 kilometers. The real range is estimated to be between 180 miles to 370 miles depending on the driving and climate conditions in which the car is operated. ChadeMo charging switches are used by the car for charging. A 126 kW DC fast charger can charge the car from 25 miles of range to 200 miles in 34 minutes. A type 2 11 KW AC charger requires 8 hours 15 minutes to charge the car.

The top speed of the car is 99 miles per hour and it goes from 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds. The car has received a 5-star safety rating. It consumes 305 Wh/miles which is excellent efficiency for an electric vehicle. Since the car is based of Volkswagen’s MEB platform it doesn’t have any residual components of ICE vehicles. Audi has designed the car from the ground up as an Electric vehicle.

In the United States of America, the car starts at $36400 after incentives. Due to these incentives, more people will be lured to buy electric vehicles. The price point of the Audi Q4 e-tron puts it in competition with Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen I.D. 4.

Audi has launched many more e-tron models like the e-tron GT and the Audi A6 e-tron. Since the market for electric vehicles is growing the number of e-tron models will most likely increase and the customers will have more choice while buying electric vehicles.
