Replacing The Windshield On Tesla Could Cost Whopping $1,500+, Here’s A Real Incident

For customers wanting all the bells and whistles, the most expensive Tesla Model X variant with three motors can set you back at a whopping $138,990 after the recent hike.

Tesla EVs are everything but cheap, as they are strong contenders in the most premium automobile leagues. Nothing short on power, features, and exclusiveness.

Model X and its unique panoramic windshield and gullwing door design look fabulous and so are the prices to replace them.

The phrase “you get what you pay for” is usually true, but when it comes to replacing the windshield on a Tesla Model X, you might be surprised by the prices!

You can see yourself paying three to four times more than necessary for the windshield replacement. Let’s find out more.

How Much Does Tesla Model X Windshield Replacement Cost?

According to an old story shared on the Tesla Motors Club forum, one unhappy Tesla customer gave a real-world insight into how he had troubles with his Tesla Model X windshield replacement.

Tesla Windshield Cost

Although the windshield replacement actually was quick at Safelite AutoGlass, Arizona, but it wasn’t cheap. Moreover, getting the Model X replacement windshield took quite a long time because the parts were delayed for more than a month.

The user stated that when they needed replacement, Tesla requested $1,500 upfront to do the windshield. Meaning the owner would have to pay out of pocket and be reimbursed by their auto insurance provider. So, they chose the Safelite option to save on their insurance. But that did not save them any money plus, took a long time to get the Tesla Model X parts delivered.

The entire ordeal cost him around $1,597, including $181 for labor and $105 for taxes. The labor charges are expensive as the Model X windshield requires four people to remove and install the windshield on the EV.

Tesla Windshield Cost Bill

There is a slight possibility of the stock being low than in Arizona, but there are numerous such stories where Tesla owners had similar issues.

How Much Does Windshield Replacement Cost On Standard Cars?

According to Auto Glass Locator, the average cost to replace the windshield on any standard ICE vehicle could cost anywhere around $1,000. They put Tesla Model X windshield repairs or replacement costs between $1,450 to $2,300.

However, the average cost of replacement on standard cars has sky-rocketed in recent years. The average cost to replace the windshield with insurance was around $179 in the 90s and early 2000s.

The current average cost with insurance is around $375 in the US but without insurance depends on the total deductibles.

The costs of repairing a new vehicle are soaring high, especially when the parts needed are not readily available everywhere, like Tesla Model X. Hence, the high replacement costs!

However, if you have a vehicle that is popular and has shown to be reliable enough to still be present in the secondary market, supply will hopefully meet the demand for replacement parts. Plus, much cheaper repairs and replacement.

Are Expensive Tesla Repairs & Replacements Worth It?

If you’re looking for a car that delivers cutting-edge performance and environmental sustainability, then a Tesla may be the perfect choice for you.

However, it’s important to remember that these high-tech vehicles do come with a higher price tag, but the repairs are hefty too. So be prepared to pay more for the repairs and replacements to keep your Tesla running smoothly.

The scenario can change when Tesla parts become abundantly available around the world cutting down on huge costs, but currently, nothing is closer to that dream.

In the case of the windshield, the quality of the glass and the size certainly contribute to the end cost.

The Cybertruck glasses are said to be bulletproof, although as seen in the above video, the test conducted after Elon Musk’s demonstration in front of a live audience certainly wasn’t very successful as the world saw the glass breaking right away.

Tesla model’s success over the next crucial few years will also depend on how the prices for EV repairs will go from here.

But in the end, that investment will be well worth it thanks to all of the incredible features and benefits that these top-notch vehicles offer.

Why Tesla Repairs Are Costly?

Tesla repairs are expensive because they are specialized and high-tech. Unlike traditional auto repair shops, Tesla technicians have to be highly skilled and certified to work on these cars.

They use cutting-edge diagnostic tools and software that can cost thousands of dollars, as well as advanced equipment like automated robots, soldering stations, and electronic workbenches.

Tesla models come with Autopilot and a big fleet of additional features that may require recalibration along with the replacement.

Tesla is a newer automobile company. Moreover, Tesla’s electric vehicles are more expensive to produce than traditional gas-powered cars, which also contributes to the higher repair costs in general.

Overall, Tesla repairs can be pricey because they require specialized knowledge and equipment that most auto shops don’t have access to. However, with proper maintenance and care, these high-tech cars will last for years, making the investment well worth it in the long run.

Bottomline

Tesla repairs can be expensive due to their complex technology and intricate design. While other car manufacturers still use standard internal combustion engines, Tesla has been at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation for years.

Tesla vehicles use advanced AI, computer processors, battery packs, and motors to deliver incredible performance while remaining amazingly efficient.

But while this cutting-edge technology certainly has its benefits, it also comes with some significant downsides. One of the main challenges with electric vehicles is that repairing them can be extremely expensive due to the amount of specialized equipment and expertise required.

It’ll also be interesting to see whether Tesla vehicles are eventually regarded like any other classic car once they reach a certain age in near future.

It may be, one day, that you’ll need to go to a local collectible car convention, flea market, or scrapyard to find parts for your Tesla vehicle. At that point, prices for repairs might not only be potentially high, but they could also become impossible.

Slap on some protection film or use aftermarket services to save as much as 40% on replacement costs. In any case, it doesn’t look like the replacement or repair cost of the Tesla Model X windshield is going affordable anytime soon. Just be careful!

Despite the higher costs associated with repairing Teslas, they are still incredibly popular among EV lovers. People love Tesla’s sleek and futuristic designs as well as, their performance capabilities in both the city and on the highway.

So even though repairs can be costly, most Tesla drivers are still willing to pay these higher prices to enjoy all the benefits of owning a Tesla.

  1. This is pretty much what it cost on any vehicle with tech in the windshield, not just Teslas.
I recommend getting insurance that covers windshield replacement.

  2. My model 3 2022 in Vegas was just under $1,300. I wonder what the average vehicle cost is and then what is the average cost for a BMW or Mercedes?

I see this information was CONVENIENTLY left out of this article!

  3. I had mine replaced twice due to rock chips. Cost $500 as that’s my deductible. Actual out of pocket cost would be $660 if you have higher deductible and have Tesla insurance. Tesla service offer discounts if you pay out of pocket and have Tesla insurance.

  4. What a STUPID article. Years ago (at least 5) car wash broke my windshield on 2008 Prius. I insisted on OEM glass since they paid for it and the glass itself was $1100 from the dealer. Considering that model X glass is 3 times as big, bent, panoramic, tinted, $1300 for the glass is a bargain compared to what Toyota charges. This writing is a clickbait. Shame on you.

  5. I have had 2 windshield replacements in past 4 years both were in the 1500 range. One was a Honda Accord gasoline engine and the other a Honda Clarity plug in Hybrid. The price is based on the technology in the windshield not the vehicle type
