Is Tesla All Wrong in Making Electric Vehicles?

  2. Does this take account for the pollution caused by developing gas cars? Because it compares production with use. So its not a very valid comparison.

    • Totally agree. This is apples and oranges. How many years of fuel consumption associated with building ICEs?

    • Perhaps someone will invent a better alternative. I’m still hoping for a device to run off water by separating hydrogen out of it and releasing oxygen out.

If we’re talking about global climate change, then we have to include China, India, Russia, Indonesia, these 4 emerging countries alone are responsible for over 50% of green house gas emissions, and growing exponentially daily. The United States 🇺🇸, is responsible for only 15% of the global greenhouse gas emissions & shrinking by the day. China & Russia are hostile to the United States 🇺🇸, China building over 1 coal burning plant a week, with no plans to stop the increase of their green house gas emission ways. China & Russia are like the Orcs from Lord of the Rings, burning everything in sight to increase their economies and produce a strong military and prepare for war. China 🇨🇳 has the monopoly of electric minerals and electric car battery production of about 90%. Communist
    China wants to be the strongest economic & military super power in the world, and has openly stated they want to overtake the United States 🇺🇸, and dictate the rules. So unless people want China overtaking the United States 🇺🇸, and allowing the United States 🇺🇸, to grow weaker at the same time while China grows stronger & have to depend on China for our electric cars, we should maybe slow our role on the climate change of wind and solar. We should also be seeking out real solutions into energy and giving some time for American ingenuity to take place and be looking at safe nuclear molten salt reactors & nuclear fusion which is being developed.

    Ceding power to the despotic autocratic Communist countries of China and Russia, who either don’t care or believe in climate change of wind and solar seems like a mistake the United States, will never be able to come back from. If we just slowed our role in transitioning & focused on the better long term solutions of molten salt reactors and nuclear fusion and at the same time keep working on a strong economy and preparing our country to be able to withstand a military assault from Russia 🇷🇺, China 🇨🇳 or both it could have a better outcome on the long-term climate of the world, providing you believe in the climate change of wind and solar alone without looking at the real long-term better solutions.

  5. The global warming impact of a vehicle is NOT simply the total amount of greenhouse gases it produces, but that amount multiplied by TIME. An EV creates a large slug of green house gases on day 1, which causes global warming every day forever. An ICE only gradually emits GHGs, and takes time to catch up to the EV produced GHGs. But even when the ICE car does match the EV’s Day 1 GHGs, the global warming impact (GWI) of the EV is still ahead, because it has been operating in the atmosphere for X years. The ICE car will not catch up with the EV GWI until another X years, so it takes 2X years for the GWI of the ICE car to match the GWI of the EV. Also, in most of the US at least half of electric power comes from burning coal and natural gas, so an EV is responsible for the GHGs emitted to create the electricity the EV uses, so the EV keeps racing ahead of the ICE car in its GWI, meaning it takes several more years for the ICE car to catch up to the EV’s GWI. It could take 10 years before an ICE car catches up to an EV’s global warming impact, and the EV is AHEAD in causing global warming during those years. That means that switching to EVs will SPEED UP GLOBAL WARMING and there will be NO NET BENEFIT from EVs for 10 years or more. That is a stupid and inefficient way to reduce global warming. ANOTHER PROBLEM with EVs is that electric power production needs to be massively increased to support mass EV use, and California does not have enough electric power NOW in 2023 to service its existing EVs, let alone an increase by 20 times that the state demands. A THIRD PROBLEM with EVs is that the electric grid is the most vulnerable part of energy infrastructure, and is shut dow for days to weeks by every kind of natural disaster: hurricanes, tornados, blizzards, earthquakes, floods, wildfires. If a disaster cuts electric power before you have fully recharged your EV, you may be unable to evacuate from a disaster area, or to use your EV to get food and water and medical care. If global warming increases natural disasters, EVs are a stupid choice for transportation.

    Where’s the accounting for ALL upstream emissions and fuels for comparable ICE vehicles?

  8. So why is it fair to compare the emissions of an EV battery pack to only the tailpipe emissions of a ICE vehicle? What about the emissions of extraction and refinement of oil into gasoline? If I’m not mistaken it takes about 10% of our energy mix. All to just to smoke out our tailpipes? At least try to do apples to apples comparison…

  9. All of the articles I’ve read about this topic leave out the impact of disposal of the vehicle after it’s end of life. Let’s make a silly assumption that the intent on EVs is to make it easier on the environment. What is recyclable or reusable comparison. I’m not an expert or claim to have any knowledge on the topic, so I would be interested to see an environmental impact of the waste products of the two approaches. To me it is similar to nuclear waste issues, but I may be way off base.

  10. These foils would like you to believe there’s no emissions for gas cars from day one. Given, you have many more engine parts to manufacture, it’s not an accurate assessment.
