Tesla has just released an exciting new update for its Full Self-Driving system. The latest version, FSD 12.5, supervised is now available to more Tesla models, though it’s still only for cars with Hardware 4, now called AI4.
What’s exciting in this update is the fact that it is now making Tesla vehicles to effectively detect puddles and avoid them successfully. Here’s everything that we know!
Tesla 12.5 FSD Update New Features And Availability
Initially, the update was only for Model Y vehicles with HW4. Now, it’s available for more Tesla models, except the Cybertruck and Semi, currently. The new update’s version is said to work five times better than before but can’t run on older Hardware 3 yet.
One of the coolest new features of FSD 12.5 is its ability to avoid puddles and use signal lights correctly. TimDOES on X shared a video of Tesla successfully avoiding a puddle while lane driving through a street.

The tweet says that in some cases, it even performs better than a human driver. The 22-second video shows Tesla driving through the night on FSD.
Tesla’s Focus On Safety And Smoothness
Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s Head of Autopilot, said this update majorly focuses on making the ride safer and smoother. He says that he tested it himself by driving on FSD for 30 minutes without spilling his coffee.
Not spilling from an open cup does show how smooth the ride could become after the update. People are bound to adapt and naturally choose self-driving vehicles with such sheer upgrades that make FSD safer, smoother, and user-friendly.
AI4: The New Name For Hardware 4
Elon Musk announced on X that Hardware 4 will now be called AI4. Tesla is already using AI4 computers with Nvidia GPUs for training. This is sooner than expected since Musk had said they would only start after their new supercomputer, Cluster was ready.
What Tesla Drivers With The Latest Update Are Saying?
Tesla owners are loving the new update. One of the earliest to get hold of the update a YouTuber AI DRIVR said that the latest FSD update by far is the smoothest. One driver on a Tesla forum said,
“Wow, just wow. This is the first version that lives up to the hype. I did a 9-mile test run through tough spots, and it handled them all perfectly. I would tweak the speed and acceleration a bit, but overall, it’s very impressive.”
Another user on X wondered how the new models would perform on snow-covered roads, which is a common concern for drivers in winter. Some users said they’ve seen big improvements in previous versions too. There are many that have mixed feelings towards FSD as autonomous driving is still in its early phases. One Reddit user said:
“When there’s no traffic on the roads, FSD Beta can do some really cool shit. When traffic starts getting dense, FSD Beta can do some really stupid shit,”
