Tesla Cybertruck slays the trending charts on social media but still many question its title of being a truck. Thousands of videos pop up when you search for Cybertruck’s durability and performance.
In one such recent video, a tow hitch of a Cybertruck along with giga casting rear broke and fell. The video is now trending where Youtuber WhistlinDiesel, is seen testing the Cybertruck to extremes in a torture test against the Ford F-150.
The video is getting too much attention and people are divided over how the Cybertruck behaves. Some are justifying the snapped-off frame and some are questioning everything about the Tesla truck.
Here’s everything to know.
Cybertruck’s Tow Hitch and Giga Casting Rear Snap Off
The video on YouTube has already garnered millions of views and is trending on social media. Posted on 3rd August by WhistlinDiesel, it claims to tell you everything about Cybertruck. Cody the host of the show on YouTube is known for his harsh but brutally honest testing style of a vehicle.
What is surprising is that he seems to have the Tesla Cybertruck on his naughty list from the start. He’s seen complaining about Cybertruck charging issues from the very beginning of the durability test video.
The video begins with removing Cybertruck and F-150 from flatbeds without using ramps to clearly state what to expect from the video. Cody says he has been waiting to do this test for 5 years now and this is the first installment.
The video progresses in his rough style to determine if Cybertruck could perform all standard pickup-truck duties just fine. Although it seems the testing is a bit extreme but he claims he found a critical problem that could affect your daily use of the Cybertruck.
He is seen testing the Cybertruck against the Ford F-150 on different parameters and keeps making fun comments on both vehicles. The video was going dramatically per the plan till his F-150 got stuck testing against the Tesla truck. He then decides to try towing the Ford truck using the Cybertruck and all hell let loose.
Update: Ford F-150 Survives Concrete Block Impact
In a recent video, concerns were raised regarding significant structural issues with Tesla’s Cybertruck, specifically involving the vehicle’s frame. The video demonstrated an alarming scenario where the frame of the Cybertruck snapped after the rear of the vehicle hit a concrete block. This incident occurred during a test where the truck was dropped from a height, leading to a failure of the hitch and causing the frame to break.
In contrast, a Ford F-150 subjected to a similar test managed to withstand the impact, highlighting a stark difference in durability between the two vehicles. The Cybertruck, touted for its durability and 11,000-pound towing capacity, failed under conditions that the F-150 survived, raising serious questions about the Cybertruck’s safety and design.
Cody mentioned that this issue could potentially lead to more accidents if not addressed, citing another case where a Cybertruck lost its rear end after hitting a bump on the highway, leading to a dangerous situation with the trailer it was towing.
Tesla has yet to officially respond to these concerns, and the video suggests that this might be a broader issue that could require a recall or other significant interventions from Tesla to prevent future incidents. The presenter’s conclusion was clear: under certain conditions, the Cybertruck’s frame is prone to snapping, which could have severe implications for users.
Cybertruck Doing Truck Things?
The Ford pickup comes to a halt when crossing the pothole test after the Tesla truck completes it. Cody decides to pull out the stuck Ford using the most normal feature of a pickup truck: towing!
Pulling it using Cybertruck suddenly breaks off the entire tow hitch along with the rear gig casting part.
Shocked Cody after the tow hitch fell off said:
“What’s the towing capacity? 11,000 pounds? To get that certified, they have to go through a ton of testing. A normal truck would never break like this. It’s got to be able to do truck things. That was the most truck thing ever, which is to pull out another truck.”
Cybertruck Is Not A Pickup Truck?
It’s an understatement to say Cody was bummed when the Cybertruck’s giga casting broke in half while trying to pull an F-150. Towing is a key feature of any pickup truck, so this failure might seem like a big deal.
One Reddit user said that Tesla Cybertruck is nothing but a pretend truck and the automaker does not expect it to the truck things.

But before jumping to conclusions, it’s worth noting that the Cybertruck’s design might be a positive. The way the giga casting broke is actually a smart safety feature, showing that the Tesla actually performed as intended. However, the other issues related to the exterior door handles and its flimsy doors coming off when slammed hard do perform badly.
Tesla designed the Cybertruck’s giga castings to act like crumple zones. This means they’re supposed to break away cleanly under stress to protect the rest of the vehicle. Instead of transferring impact energy into the cabin, the casting sheers off, making the vehicle safer in a crash.
Moreover, this design makes repairs easier—if a part gets damaged, you only need to replace the broken section rather than the entire casting.
Bottomline
Many online users are furious over the failure of the Cybertruck tow hitch. But the broken rear could be a blessing in disguise for the Cybertruck tow hitch. Tesla designed the Cybertruck’s giga castings to break away in a controlled way to protect the rest of the vehicle and make repairs easier.
So, while Cody is furiously disappointed in Cybertruck with this test might seem disappointing, it shows how the Cybertruck’s design works to keep the vehicle safe and repairable. What are your thoughts on this durability test?
