Xiaomi, a Chinese tech giant famous for manufacturing smartphones and consumer electronics, has officially entered the melee of the high-performance electric vehicle (EV) market with the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra release. The automaker’s latest electric vehicle does not just owe its superior speed and acceleration to this, but it also offers the lowest sticker price, shocking rivals such as the Tesla Model S Plaid by almost $40,000 in China.

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is the most high-end version of the Xiaomi SU7 Series. The Xiaomi SU7 was released last year and has seen a massive demand with several months of waiting list. The new SU7 Ultra stands as an impressive competitor to Tesla’s Model S Plaid which has been a benchmark in high-performance EVs.

The SU7 Ultra reaches 0-60 mph performance in a record-breaking 1.98 seconds due to its three-motor system that delivers 1,548 horsepower making it quicker than Tesla’s Model S Plaid which takes 2.1 seconds. As a result in a recent video on X (formally Twitter) where an SU7 Ultra was seen outperforming a Model S Plaid in a drag race.

The SU7 Ultra holds the rank of fastest sedan available in current markets with a top speed that reaches 350 km/h (217 mph).

Last year, the prototype version of SU7 Ultra obtained the title of fastest four-door EV at the Nürburgring by beating the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. Xiaomi declares the SU7 Ultra beyond being your standard EV through its performance metrics, which place it on par with top manufacturers in the market.

Aggressive Pricing Strategy

The biggest surprise of the launch was the price cut. Originally posted at a higher price point during pre-orders in October, Xiaomi has now cut the starting price by 35%, down to $ 72.930.

On the other hand, the Tesla Model S Plaid costs almost $40,000 more in China, making the SU7 Ultra virtually irresistible. As a result, the SU7 Ultra became an instant hit, receiving 6,900 orders within 10 minutes, and after two hours the company announced that it received 10,000 orders for SU7 Ultra, reaching the annual target.

This aggressive approach to pricing could potentially help Xiaomi reach the position of a key participant in the field of high-performance EV vehicles.

Luxurious Interior with Cutting-edge Technologies

The SU7 Ultra is powered by a 94 kWh battery pack that can achieve a range of 630 km (391 miles) in the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle(CLTC). Although the CLTC test cycle is considered more optimistic than the EPA rating, Xiaomi’s own figures are still a strong competitor.

One of its notable features is that it has an ultra-fast charging feature. The battery can charge to 80% in 11 minutes, which is much faster than many other rivals, even Tesla. With this rapid charging technology, the SU7 Ultra has a massive advantage for long-distance travel.

According to Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, the goal of the SU7 Ultra is to bring you the same driving experience as you would from a Porsche with the same things from a technology standpoint as Tesla, with a luxury interior like from Mercedes-Benz.

Although no interior details were officially confirmed at the premiere, Xiaomi has put itself forward as a tech-first company, indicating that the SU7 Ultra will undoubtedly be fitted with the latest infotainment system and AI-assisted driving options, as well as easy integration with smartphones, just like with Tesla’s intelligent tech network.
