The refreshed Model Y, Tesla has once again raised the bar with what can be expected from the electric car by introducing the new Acceleration Boost. Currently, Tesla owners get the ability to boost power and gain much faster acceleration just for $2000, from the comfort of their home.

What Is the Acceleration Boost?

Acceleration Boost is another feature available for purchase as a downloadable software upgrade, which Tesla uses over-the-air updates, thus illustrating the brand’s dedication to progression for consumers’ convenience. Tesla has enabled automatic over-the-air software updates via its app or owner’s portal that do not require hardware modification.

This new version of the Model Y also adds between 100-hp to the vehicle, which will increase its speed drastically. The power boost seen at higher speeds translates to the 0 to 60 mph sprint being achieved in 4.2 seconds from a previous indicated claim of 4.6 seconds, even though that is a matter of half a second, it is still a significant improvement in response time, and one can safely assume an overall thrill.

A Strategic Midpoint Between Models

So far, it is possible to apply this upgrade to the Model Y Long Range with All-Wheel Drive configuration only. This positions the upgraded Long Range firmly between the normal Long Range and the Model Y Performance trim by both speed and cost.

The Performance model comes with a 0–60 mph time of 3.5 seconds, as well as providing additional features such as performance brakes, lowered suspension, and 21-inch wheels. It should also be noted that it starts at a considerably higher range than most of the mentioned systems. By offering an Acceleration Boost, which, although it does not include as many features as the rest of the Boost line, those customers who wish for slightly faster car acceleration but do not require the extras available in the other options can opt for this one.

Tesla’s momentum in the global electric vehicle (EV) market shows no signs of slowing, as the Model Y achieved a major sales milestone in China this March. According to newly released data, Tesla sold an impressive 48,189 units of the Model Y in the world’s largest new energy vehicle (NEV) market, securing its position as the best-selling NEV for the month.

This surge in sales not only reflects strong demand for Tesla’s mid-size SUV but also highlights the company’s growing foothold in a highly competitive and strategically vital region. The Model Y’s blend of performance, practicality, and advanced technology continues to resonate with Chinese consumers, reinforcing Tesla’s leadership in the EV space.

A Growing Trend in Tesla’s Lineup

This is not the first time Tesla has changed its acceleration-related software settings. Earlier cars like the Model 3, as well as other earlier versions of the Model Y, also benefited from similar hikes in performance through paid OTA upgrades. In general, these upgrades have been positively received by the Tesla community, mainly due to the efficiency of installation and an improvement in the vehicle’s driving characteristics.

Tesla’s decision to expand this offering to the latest Model Y continues a tradition of small, gradual performance upgrades – the customer option – that are part of the company’s long-term strategy that aims to give a car a fresh appeal after it has been bought by a customer.

The Model Y Long Range AWD comes with the nickname “Juniper” and is priced starting at $48,990, which is considerably cheaper than the previous Juniper Launch Series announced earlier this year. Being a new generation Juniper trim, Long Range AWD is aimed at those buyers who are willing to get the latest Tesla Model 3 without breaking the bank. It is said that the action will further expand the vehicle’s market and enable Tesla to maintain high sales growth in a fiercely competitive EV segment.
