2026 Chevy Silverado Sets New World Record with 1060 Miles on a Single Charge

Recently, General Motors declared that its 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck broke a world record when it managed to hit 1,059.2 miles on a single charge. This is an unprecedented milestone that has shocked the EV sector as it beats the earlier record of 749 miles by Lucid Air Grand Touring by more than 300 miles, which cements the Silverado EV as a market leader in terms of long-range capabilities in the whole electric vehicle segment.

What is even more impressive about this record is that the Silverado EV involved in the test was hardly altered and looked very similar to the model that was produced then. The project was led by GM engineers and began as a passion project before evolving into an in-depth, real-life test of the vehicle’s efficiency.

Critically, the hardware as well as the software was not interfered with in any way; this provided the authenticity and the validity of the record under attempt. The several changes that were introduced were very minor and directed exclusively at optimizing aerodynamic performance and reducing the energy consumption:

Aerodynamic drag vehicle re-positioning of windshield wipers was done. The tire pressure was adjusted to the maximum allowed so it could reduce the rolling resistance. The spare tire was taken out in order to minimize weight in general. Then the alignment of the wheels was tuned.
A tonneau cover was installed as well as to streamline air bombardment on the truck bed.

During the test, climate control systems were deactivated so that the battery could last longer. The enhancement of ambient temperature on battery performance was explored in testing conducted during the summer. Even with these subtle changes, GM says the vehicle is reflective of what buyers will obtain when they drive the production Max Pack Work Truck version of the 2026 Silverado EV.

2026 Chevy Silverado

From Concept to Champion

Introduced in 2022, the Chevy Silverado EV is a full-size and fully electric pickup truck that debuted in 2023. Its first models were Work Truck trims, which focus on the fleets and target commercial customers interested in the powerful electric vehicles as alternatives to conventional gas-powered trucks. Consumer-friendly RST trim launched in 2024 with a more sophisticated look and feel for everyday customers.

It is now 202,5 and GM has also now released the 2026 Silverado EV with an estimated range of 493 miles already amongst the highest in its segment. All that information proved wildly off the mark, though, and the record-setting test, which was performed using the Work Truck trim with the GM Max Pack battery, nearly doubled the official range on perfect driving miles.

Whereas most makers of EVs boast about acceleration rates or design aesthetics, GM engineers did not adopt the same approach but went a step further by emphasizing what is perhaps the most important aspect of EV adoption: range. Becoming the first company to exceed 1,000 miles of range per charge is not only a stunt of engineering prowess; it is a compelling message of where electric car mobility is headed: a medium capable of commercial and long-distance travel.

The fact that the Silverado managed to become the single fastest truck in world history is also evidence of how careful aerodynamic optimization, energy management, and battery optimization can result in an impressive performance of a vehicle, without the need to modify it radically or even make it impractical.
