Tesla China has released new information about the long-awaited AC External Adapter, which will enable Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality on the Model Y L. This new feature makes the car a mobile power supply so that the owners can plug in their devices and use them straight away using the car. Tesla will increase the number of outdoor-use options and the vehicle’s versatility as the rollout is expected to start in mid-November 2025.
The major highlight of the announcement is the fact that Tesla is going to take care of the initial users of the Model Y L. In the case of vehicles already in possession, automatic redemption of the AC External Adapter will be introduced through the Tesla App as early as November 10, 2025. This makes it possible to have current owners to use the V2L feature without having to spend extra money or inconvenience.
In the meantime, newly-manufactured Model Y L models, especially those shipped in recent days, will come with the AC adapter already included in the standard bundle, so new consumers will be equipped with the option immediately when they receive their vehicles.
To make the functionality and safety of V2L seamless, Tesla has presented certain software requirements to facilitate it:
- Vehicle software version 2025.32.300 or later
- Tesla App version 4.50.5 or later
These updates will add the support needed to have real-time monitoring, the support needed to have V2L controls, and the support needed to have more energy management algorithms. Before using the adapter, the owners are advised to check their systems and update them.

- Current: 10A
- Voltage: 220V

This is suitable for powering small appliances, camping gadgets, laptops, lighting systems, and other outdoor tools. Although the adapter is not intended to be used with heavy industrial equipment, its power output is sufficient to be used in most outdoor and emergency applications, greatly increasing the practical applications of the Model Y L.
Real-Time Monitoring Through the Touchscreen and App
Tesla incorporates real-time monitoring, which is among the most user-friendly features of the new V2L feature. Users can view:
- Estimated remaining power supply time
- Current output power
These statistics can be viewed on the touchscreen of the vehicle and on the Tesla App. This allows the owners to plan their usage well, especially when they are out at the camping sites, doing some work along the road, or during the events they will be attending, which will help to ensure the vehicle has adequate range to get to the home or go to the nearest charger.
Safe Shutdown and Disconnection Procedure
Tesla has additionally given specific guidelines on how to safely terminate the external power supply:
- Switch on V2L through the touchscreen or the Tesla App.
- Take off external devices from the AC adapter.
- Having an unlocked car, press and hold the button on the adapter on the top until the charge port light becomes white.
- Take out the adapter from the charging port.
This is done to make sure that the port and the adapter are never left attached and, therefore, to avoid any form of destruction and safeguard long-term dependability.
