Tesla is soon to diversify its European portfolio by launching the Tesla Model Y L, a long-range and high-load model of its most popular electric SUV. Recent EU type-approval applications suggest the car has passed and will be sold in Europe, with market launch in the next few months and possibly as early as Q1 2026. Made in Tesla Giga Shanghai, the Model Y L seems to be a sensible, long-range adaptation of the well-known Model Y formula.

Built For Longer Trips and Heavier Loads
Longer Range with a Bigger Battery Pack
The battery is one of the greatest improvements made to the Model Y L. The car is also certified with a battery pack LG 5N (EF1) of 88.2 kWh. This pack works at a nominal of 369V and adds an extra 200 cells to the total of 4,600 compared to 4,416 in other designs.
The alterations enable the Model Y L to have an impressive 681 km (423 miles) of WLTP range with 19-inch wheels, leading to this among the longest-range Model Y variants accepted in Europe so far.
Designed For Long Distance Efficiency
The EU certification includes the 3D3 / 3D7 drive units of Tesla, a powertrain generation that was launched in the area of 2021. Though they are not the latest hardware in Tesla, these motors have a good record of efficiency and reliability.
Instead of focusing on actual performance, the Model Y L seems to prioritize the range, a flawless power supply, and comfort over long distances, which are major concerns for European drivers who often have to drive through countries and states.
High Load Capacity of Everyday Utility
The carrying capability is another feature that puts the Model Y L in a better position than its range. Certification documents stipulate a load carrying capacity of 563 kg (1,241 lbs), unloaded with the driver.
It makes the car especially attractive to families, people who appreciate the outdoors, and those who have to carry heavier loads without the loss of electric power, which is super popular in China. The increased payload is indicative of suspension and structural tuning that is designed to be usable over time, instead of performance-oriented.
Limitations During Launch: No Tow Hitch Yet
Although it is a practical-oriented model, the Model Y L is not yet certified to tow a hitch in Europe. This implies that towing is not officially endorsed during launch, and this would reduce attraction among buyers who use caravans or trailers. However, Tesla has already introduced towing features to models even after they were initially released, and therefore, this limitation can be altered in the future.
A Timely Entry into a Competitive Market
The Giga Shanghai factory will produce the Model Y L, which will be shipped to Europe, and this will be the way Tesla keeps its strategy of utilizing the Chinese plant as a global production center. The vehicle was referred to internally as NV80, with its EU type approval representing that the vehicle is actually a discrete model, but not a slight modification of configuration.
Another option that Tesla assumes is a Q1 2026 release; the Model Y L will enter the European EV market, which is becoming more attentive to long-range capacity and practical usability. The Model Y L has almost 700 km of WLTP range, a massive battery, and a high load capacity, which may make it a nice offer to potential buyers who want to have a flexible electric SUV that is designed to travel long distances and be used in everyday life.
