Tesla to Add Low Power Mode in 2025.32 Update to Extend Range When Low

Tesla is still working on enhancing its automobiles via over-the-air (OTA) updates, and one of the next improvements likely to come our way looks to be a Low Power Mode.

This feature has been alluded to in the most recent build of the Tesla mobile app (v4.48), where coded references have been found indicating that it may be launched in a forthcoming vehicle firmware update, possibly version 2025.32, which is expected to be released in a couple of months, around September.

Tesla to Add Low Power Mode

In Low Power Mode?

Low Power Mode will be an option to conserve energy on non-essential processes when the vehicle battery reaches a low state of charge. Similar to battery saver capabilities on mobile phones, the feature will focus on the core systems required to drive and disable or limit those systems that use energy ineffectively.

Though Tesla is yet to confirm the information, reverse Titanium mode may turn automatic once the cars have reached a particular low charge state, or it could be activated manually by the driver.

Adjustments that are to be expected in Low Power Mode:

  • Increased climate control efficiency: HVAC systems consume a lot of energy, and therefore, we can reduce heating and cooling.
  • Deactivating or dimming cabin electronics: Certain displays or features that are non-essential to flight, such as premium audio, may be disabled.
  • Connectivity limitation: Functionality of always-on connectivity services, such as activity tracking (Sentry Mode), thermal control of the locked cabin (Cabin Overheat Protection), or advanced infotainment, could be limited due to low charge levels.
  • Range-oriented power management: The systems can be switched towards an ultra-efficient mode in order to maximize driving range.

Importance of Low Power Mode

The owners of electric vehicles (those new to ownership in particular) can develop range anxiety, the fear that the car will be unable to keep driving until they can recharge. Low Power Mode would also give more confidence to people who dislike the idea that their Tesla can run out of power in the middle of the road due to their negligence.

This can be a life-saving feature in case the driver lacks judgment and miscalculates their route or they come across unforeseen directional obstacles. It also conforms to the long-held Tesla philosophy of enhancing real-world usability via software over hardware. Learn how EV batteries work and make yours last as long as possible.

Other car manufacturers have adopted such features; however, the scope of functionality that Tesla is promising will be more holistic due to the integrated hardware-software environment it engineers. Indicatively, Tesla cars already suggest the closest charging points when the battery is almost depleted, and Low Power Mode would go along with this suggestion and help save some of the energy before getting to the charging point.

Possible Integration with Tesla App

The finding of Low Power Mode in Tesla App v4.48 is quite suggestive that the feature will allow monitoring or controlling it via an owner’s phone. One example is when the app may alert a driver when Low Power Mode is on and display live data regarding how much range could be saved by turning off certain features.

Such integration could not only notify the driver of what is going on in the background but also provide the driver with more control of how aggressively the car wants to conserve energy. An example is a case where one driver prefers to keep the cabin cool at the expense of extending the limit of the drive, whereas another driver would be willing to compromise range to stay cool.

Timing/Availability

Although this has not been officially announced, some in the community believe Low Power Mode may be released in software update 2025.32, presumably to be released in September. Such a timeline is in line with a typical schedule of Tesla updates, with quarterly releases, as well as the inclusion of a feature hiding in an app, which is normally followed by official releases.

Like with most Tesla rollouts, Low Power Mode will probably roll out first in a small region or line of vehicles before spreading to the broad fleet. All owners of Tesla’s major vehicles, including the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X, will be beneficiaries of the feature once it becomes fully available.
