Tesla Recalls Over 46,000 Cybertrucks Due to Faulty Exterior Panel

0

Tesla is recalling over 46,000 Cybertrucks because high amperage running lights create a risk to safety due to a cosmetic exterior trim panel, the cant rail. A potential hazard that could lead to a crash or harm to a passenger is possible if the panel splits from the vehicle while it is occupied, according to a filing submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall covers all 46,096 Cybertrucks made between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025. As Tesla’s highly anticipated electric pickup truck just launched in late 2023, the recall has been for virtually everyone who has delivered it since.

Tesla assures the owners that they can send their cars with the faulty cant rail to any Tesla Service Center free of charge, for the replacement. No accidents or injuries have been reported to the company linked to the issue, but the recall demonstrates growing worries about Tesla’s interior quality control processes, especially with new vehicle launches.

A Growing Trend of Tesla Recalls

This latest recall isn’t Tesla’s first for safety issues. The Cybertruck has already been recalled before, this year, over an issue with the accelerator pedal that can result in unintended acceleration. The most recent investigation is the latest example of problems dogging Tesla’s production and reliability.

Recently, Tesla has made use on numerous occasions of over-the-air (OTA) software updates to resolve recalls without requiring physical repairs. But the Cybertruck’s cant rail issue must be addressed directly to schedule service appointments, which has historically been the challenge for Tesla’s limited service network.

The recall is at a tough period for Tesla. After once being the top player in the electric vehicle (EV) market, the company is currently losing ground to rivals. In the US, Tesla sales dropped 2% year over year in the last quarter, while the EV market grew 16%. Things are even devastating in the international market.

In China, Tesla sales dropped by 49% to make way for a market storm surge of home-grown manufacturers such as BYD. In Germany, it fell, which was shockingly 76% as European brands ramped up their EV production.

Because of this, the price of Tesla’s stock has plummeted by more than 40% since the beginning of 2025. Market participants are growing deeply worried about Tesla’s continued domination, especially after more car manufacturers have jumped into the EV business with competitive prices and better efficiency.

Quality Control and Production Issues

Quality control problems have repeatedly appeared as major issues for Tesla throughout its operations. Tesla receives applause for its battery and self-driving initiatives, but it still encounters negative feedback because of varying build quality results. People worry about the Cybertruck’s creative stainless steel design because it looks challenging to manufacture. Tesla’s ongoing production expansion has faced more credibility questions after this recent product recall.

Throughout its history, Tesla has consistently built vehicles with minor problems that customers detect after purchase. Tesla’s rapid vehicle development methods allow it to introduce new products fast yet regulatory agencies together with consumer watchdogs increase their oversight because of this approach.
