The new Tesla Model Y, known as “Juniper,” is scheduled for delivery in March and features several design and efficiency upgrades. One notable change is the metallically coated glass roof, which includes two layers of silver. This enhancement is designed to reduce cabin noise and improve thermal efficiency, contributing to a quieter and more comfortable driving experience.
2025 Tesla Model Y Juniper Roof Enhancements
Enhanced Noise Reduction
Electric vehicles are known to have cabin noise issues, and Tesla has been working to reduce this problem in the new Model Y. Specifically, three features – metallic coating on the outer surface of the hood, the inclusion of rear glass, and the overall design and weight of the car body make the car to ride more quietly. It has also covered internal materials and added carpeted cup holders, trunk and sides trims to add to the minimal clattering noise inside the cabin.
Improved Thermal Insulation
The addition of the silver layer in the glass roof of the Model Y has improved the insulation of heat within the cabin. Tesla also majors in interior lighting and HVAC fans so that they may be made more efficient.

Other Updates in the Model Y ‘Juniper’
Tesla has removed its ‘T’ logo from the car and reinstated the turn signal stalk in response to customer feedback. Additionally, the company has reduced drag from the brake calipers to improve range and efficiency. While Tesla had the option to design a higher-capacity battery to extend the car’s range, it opted against it, citing concerns that it would make the vehicle too expensive for the average consumer.
Even the door latch handles, trunks, and other mechanisms have been redesigned to close smoothly and quietly. Advanced sensors can now detect the presence of passengers, including their heartbeat and breathing. It’s worth noting that the current “Launch Edition” is priced at $59,990 before incentives.
