Tesla has begun production of the revamped Model Y Performance in Grunheide, Germany, at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg. This announcement is significant to both the automaker and to its customers in Europe, acknowledging Tesla’s increasing emphasis on performance, personalization, and design.

To mark the launch, the company displayed an extraordinary row of Model Y Performance vehicles outside the Berlin facility in every color option available to potential customers. The cars were aligned against the factory’s lively murals, a visual metaphor of Tesla playing the role of fusion curator of technology, sustainability, and artistry.

The Beginning of Another Chapter for Model Y Performance

The Model Y has already garnered the status of one of the world’s most successful electric vehicles, nd now, the new Performance model sets the bar higher. With 0-60 miles per hour in 3.3 seconds, the Model Y Performance is Tesla’s fastest compact SUV to date. The power is supplied by dual motors that improve torque while providing improved handling as well. Range is rated at 360 miles.

The exterior now has new front and rear fascias, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, and staggered wheels that improve aerodynamics and therefore grip. Tesla’s interior offerings have now also included the Model Y Performance, with a QHD central display, heated and ventilated sport seats with powered thigh extensions, and amorphous sound-insulated windows that provide a relatively quiet cabin experience.

When combined, these updates elevate the Model Y Performance from a family-friendly EV to a true sporty premium crossover.

All the Colors from Giga Berlin

What made today’s debut especially eye-catching was Tesla’s decision to use the Performance launch to show the updated variants with all possible color options, all using the finishes available from Giga Berlin’s advanced paint shop.

  • Pearl White Multi-Coat
  • Solid Black
  • Quicksilver Metallic
  • Midnight Silver Metallic
  • Deep Blue Metallic
  • Midnight Cherry Red

All finish options reflect the investment by Tesla into paint technology at their Berlin factory, including precise ultra-fine multi-layer coatings in order to create depth, shimmer, and colors that shift depending on natural light. The premium finishes, including Quicksilver and Midnight Cherry Red, are exclusive to Giga Berlin, and they were flaunted in the display.

With the launch of the Model Y Performance, Tesla is giving customers something rare: an electric vehicle that promises supercar-like performance, with a choice of personalization via high-tech paint options, something that only a handful of automakers offer at this level.

What it Means for Tesla and Europe

The commencement of Model Y Performance production at Giga Berlin means several things. For Tesla, they get to reinforce their brand position in Europe, as they are beginning to face competition from both local and Chinese EV brands. Bringing speed, range, and premium finishes allows Tesla to remain appealing against a slate of new competitors.

Ultimately, the message to customers is clear: Europe is receiving the best of Tesla. Purchasers won’t have to choose between efficiency and sportiness, nor between practicality and luxury. The cars coming out of Berlin seamlessly blend the two—and, being built in-country, Tesla can save domestic delivery time and shipping costs.

Deliveries are anticipated to begin sometime from late September to October 2025, with pre-orders commencing in July.

A Factory That Reflects Tesla’s Values

Giga Berlin is more than just a manufacturing facility. The exterior of the factory is decorated with the kind of street-art murals that embody creativity, innovation, and the future of mobility. In front of an odd background, the six freshly built Model Y Performance cars stood promisingly for a purpose consistent with Tesla’s mission: to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy by making it desirable, accessible, and thrilling.
