A new video has emerged from China recently, in which a Tesla Car with the Autopilot system was seen to make a split-second, life-saving move that would have otherwise resulted in a fatal accident. Reports and footage released online from the car’s dashcam indicate that the vehicle automatically swerved to the right when two people on bicycles suddenly appeared in front of it, causing the car to swerve out of the way with little time to spare.
This dramatic incident has reignited the debate about the advanced safety features of Tesla’s vehicles and the potential role of autonomous technologies in reducing road accidents and saving lives.

The accident occurred on a busy street in a Chinese city and was captured by the dashcam installed on the Tesla. As can be observed in the video, two individuals enter the road viciously on a bicycle on the left-hand side, in front of the approaching Tesla.
Since the reaction time of humans was always short in cases of sudden situations, the Autopilot system kicked in immediately. The car, rather than going straight, continued turning to the right so as to evade the cyclists instead of an emergency braking. This maneuver went off without a hitch, as it did not adversely affect the occupants of the Tesla and of the neighboring vehicles.
