The Tesla Roadster is long overdue; Tesla still hasn’t delivered after taking more than $50,000 as deposits, but it’s getting closer to its full release. As Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen noted, the Tesla Roadster of the next generation is still scheduled to make its much-awaited debut and live demonstration in the near future, in 2025.

It was announced when von Holzhausen was a recent guest on Ride the Lightning, a widely known Tesla podcast by DMC Ryan. These remarks have stirred up renewed enthusiasm in Tesla enthusiasts and the auto community at large, who have been waiting for years to see this groundbreaking all-electric sports car officially launched.

Tesla Roadster Production

A Pledge of Creativity and Innovation

Von Holzhausen indicated in the interview that the new Roadster will demonstrate a variety of novel elements, such as a collection of special paint choices tailored to the car. “I am thrilled to present the Roadster for a great number of reasons”, he said. “The wait will be worth it.” The fact alone has ignited speculations regarding what Tesla has been fine-tuning behind the scenes.

Considering that the design concept of von Holzhausen is established, having worked on the entire Tesla modern line from the Model S through to the Cybertruck, the thoughts on a distinct design approach carry a weighted promise.

The designer also underlined that Tesla is not just returning to the past formula of the Roadster but creating it again. All the features of the car, including its aerodynamics and its materials, have been developed to the limits of performance, efficiency, and looks. Equipped with its own finishes of paint colors and some custom-designed pointers, the Roadster is likely to become the most high-end and expressive vehicle in the company to date.

What We Know So Far

Although Tesla has maintained certain secrets, the upcoming generation of the Roadster was being promoted as a car that would break the performance standards since the unveiling of the prototype in 2017. It was expected to have a 200 kWh battery pack, over 600 miles of range, and boast a 0-60 mph time of less than two seconds, a figure that would have made it one of the fastest production cars in the world had it been true. The all-wheel-drive supercar will likely utilize the tri-motor configuration of Tesla and enjoy the current developments in battery technology, aero, and software integration.

The production schedule of the car has changed several times, in fact, several times during the years, but when von Holzhausen stated that the project is on track to be revealed in 2025, it is an indication of new energies. Analysts predict that the next demo event will, hopefully, give the first live view of the actual design of the car, its interior layout, and maybe, even a performance demonstration, which Tesla is famous for doing in a very dramatic manner.

What to Expect at the 2025 Unveil

Once the Roadster finally hits the stage later this year, several things will attract notice. First, the complete design language and paint choices will probably evidence the direction of Tesla towards a high level of customization that will attract the customers who want to be exclusive.

Second, the company can utilize the event to validate the key performance measures, such as acceleration, range, and top speed. Last but not least, all will be focused on Tesla’s production roadmap – whether the company will be able to present the car to customers in a year or whether more refinements will push the timelines once again.

Although Tesla has had a mixed track record in deadline deliveries, the words of von Holzhausen that the wait will be worth it are an indicator that Tesla has confidence that the Roadster is now approaching completion.
