After months of anticipation, Tesla has finally unveiled the Model Y Standard in the United States, bringing a new entry point to its best-selling electric SUV lineup. The starting price of the new Model Y Standard is $39,990, making Tesla ownership more accessible while still retaining the core features. The deliveries are set to begin in November 2025.
The new Model Y Standard received a subtle redesign. Tesla has also presented a revamped front fascia and one-piece headlights, providing a clean and unified look. The model, however, does not incorporate high-end lighting features such as the matrix headlights and the front light bar, given the practicality and affordability.
The closed glass roof is another notable modification, marking a first for the Model Y line. According to Tesla, such a design will provide better cabin insulation and privacy, and the production costs will decrease. Buyers are provided with 18-inch wheels with the designation of Aperture to ensure maximum efficiency or 19-inch wheels of the designation Crossflow to have a sportier appearance.
Performance and Range
The Model Y Standard, even though a low-level version, is quite respectable in terms of performance. Its highest speed of 0 to 60 mph can be reached in 6.8 seconds, so it is fast enough to drive in everyday life, as well as to merge onto the highway. The power is then directed to the back wheels, which is a reversion to the original rear-wheel-drive design at Tesla.
With a single charge, the vehicle has an EPA-estimated range of up to 321 miles (516 km), which is greater than many of its competitors in its price range. The unusual suspension system featuring passive shock absorbers provides a balance between comfort and handling, and also maintains the low maintenance costs.
Simplified but Functional Interior
The Model Y Standard is a simplistic design, but with a price-saving mindset, which is characteristic of a minimalist design philosophy implemented inside. The interiors will have a textile and vegan leather dual-tone seat, with textile decoration on the dashboard.
Manual steering wheel and side mirror adjustments, manual second-row seats folding will be available to buyers. The center console has been redesigned in an open format and includes enhanced flexibility of storage.
The center touchscreen is 15.4 inches in size, and it is the control center of the entire vehicle, including all controls, entertainment, and navigation. The vehicle has a 7-speaker sound system, which does not have the old-fashioned FM/AM radio.
Rear occupants receive adjustable air vents by hand, and although the Model Y Standard keeps a particulate and odor filter, it does not have the iconic HEPA filtration system by Tesla.
Features and Safety
Expectedly, the Model Y Standard comes with the powerful safety and convenience features that Tesla offers. It has auto high beams and a front-bumper camera – an element that the refreshed Model 3 also has. Nevertheless, it does not come with Autosteer and other autonomous features, which are in line with its affordability.
The cargo capacity is 75 cubic feet, only a cubic foot lower than the upscale trims. The Model Y Standard is a very useful family car, very practical despite having a simplified design.
Tesla is offering three exterior paint choices:
- Stealth Grey (Standard)
- Pearl White Multi-Coat (+$1,000)
- Diamond Black (+$1,500)
Production of the Model Y Standard will begin later this month, with first deliveries scheduled for November 2025 in select U.S. markets.
