Tesla is indeed working on a significant addition to its Model Y family, as one of its 6-seater units has reportedly been spotted running down the assembly line at Giga Shanghai. This new layout is not only a minor interior change but involves a few significant design and performance updates that will make Model Y an even more comfortable and family-oriented car.
Long Wheelbase for More Comfort
Among the most notable improvements is the long wheelbase. The Model Y 6-seater has been confirmed to have the wheelbase elongated between 5.9 inches (15cm) and 7.9 inches (20cm) against the current standard model. The alteration should provide much-needed leg and cabin room, particularly for those using the third row of seats, which has elicited criticism regarding the current 7-seat format.

The increased wheelbase will not only make the vehicle more comfortable it may also prove to give a more stable ride and even possibly a smoother handling car with a full load. Although Tesla has not officially introduced these dimensions, the expansion fits with the prior hypothesis that the Model Y would undergo a large revision in 2025.
Rear Section Restyled to Allow More Headroom
It is not only a change in the wheelbase. The back of the car, especially the place behind the C-pillar, has been redesigned slightly but carefully. The redesign seems to be geared towards giving the third row riders better headroom as compared to their relatively tight seat design on the 7-seater model. The increased roof line and changed rear glass profile may be the trick to turning the third row back to an emergency-only or useless place to seat four adults or even teenagers, to a real usable seat that would seat children and adults in the third row.
This redesign has also been seen to allow better visibility at the rear and to give the SUV a more graceful shape to the outline of the vehicle, which may add more to both design and practicality.
Upgraded Seating and Interior Comfort
The next visible revision is the introduction of perforated second-row seats, which indicates the possible introduction of seat ventilation, another feature requested by Tesla owners for a long time, particularly in warmer regions. Interestingly, these perforations were not observed on the third-row seats, so apparently, the area of focus is the care of the second row, based on the fact that it is the most used of the three rows.
In the case that the seats are ventilated, then this will serve as a premium interior improvement and one that will make the Model Y come closer to the interiors of the Model S and Model X in terms of luxury. This refresh can also be an occasion to meet new materials and interior layout, as Tesla is following the course of slowly achieving perfection in user experience without sweeping overhauls.
Refreshed by New Wheel Design
Visually, the refreshed Model Y comes with an entirely new design of the wheels, allowing it to stand out from the current models running on the roads. Although no details of the new wheels have been given so far in terms of size and aerodynamic performance, the update in the design supports the notion that Tesla thinks of the Model Y not as a third-row addition but a serious facelift.
Some of the minor design signals provided by Tesla include the wheels, shape of headlights, and trim pieces that are used to indicate the generational change, which does not come in the form of rebranding. Thus, the new rims can become a distinctive feature of the updated family of 2025 Model Y.
This redesign has also been seen to allow better visibility at the rear and to give the SUV a more graceful shape to the outline of the vehicle, which may add more to both design and practicality.
