A vision-only Tesla Model Y robotaxi with Full Self-Driving (FSD) Unsupervised was spotted to be able to avoid collisions in the real world after dodging a Waymo robotaxi, which suddenly crossed the yellow line on an Austin roadway.

The victim, narrating the event, reported that he and his girlfriend were taken by surprise by the sudden movement of the Waymo car. But the fast response of the Tesla robotaxi saved it. “We were very surprised at the moment,” he said, “but we felt safer thanks to the quick response related to the safety of the robotaxi.”

The calm yet correct decision by Tesla’s system prevented a potentially serious incident without requiring human intervention.

The incident also revives the discussion about the current debate between the vision-only philosophy of Tesla and the companies that implement several types of sensors.
