Ford Unveils 1400-HP Mustang Mach-E, SUV with Seven Electric Motors

The Ford Mustang Mach-E was introduced last year in November, It is an electric crossover SUV, because what the world needs is another SUV. Upon its unveil it faced a fair share of criticism for using the legendary Mustang name on a sports utility vehicle and that too an electric SUV, needless to say, the purists and the Mustang fanboys took to the social media to express their outrage, this, however, hasn’t deterred Ford even a little bit. Ford is all set to launch this car towards the end of this year as a 2021 model. On top of that, the company revealed an ultra high-performance version with a monstrous 1,400 HP from not one, not two but “Seven” electric motors.

About the Mustang Mach-E 1400

This beast is intended to be a demonstration vehicle that was created by the engineers at Ford to showcase the potential of electric vehicles and also as an experiment to research ways to extract maximum performance from an electric powerplant, this is what the head of Ford Performance Motorsport Mark Rushbrook said. It is based on an ordinary Mach-E SUV which has two electric motors producing 459 horsepower.

To make this car, Ford collaborated with RTR vehicles which is an automotive company founded by professional drifter Vaugh Gitten Jr., who has raced in a variety of race events like Formula D, World Drift Series (WDS), NASCAR and a few more. RTR specializes in parts, customization, and tuning for Ford cars and trucks. Mr. Rushbrook said that Ford and RTR came together for this project and contributed a lot of ideas from a variety of sources and developed the 1400 HP Mustang Mach-E. Vaugh had an idea of building an electric drift car, Ford and RTR build upon this idea to make an all-electric all-round vehicle that can do road courses, drag racing and everything else.

Ford also incorporated the help of other outside partners and also took inputs from Team Edison-Ford’s in house electric vehicle development group, for making this car. The Mach-E 1400 is powered by three electric motors for just the front wheels and the rear wheels get even more electric juice from four electric motors. This car can function as an AWD, FWD, RWD only modes, and also it can split power between the front and back wheels in any proportion, this is the benefit of having dedicated motors for the front and back wheels.

Features of Ford Mustang Mach-E

Like all the electric vehicles, even the Mach-E 1400 has a regenerative braking system, but the Mach-E has an additional hydraulic handbrake that can stop just the back wheels of a vehicle. This comes in handy especially when drifting or doing a sharp handbrake turn, reminds me of the good old days of manual handbrakes which were much better than the toggle switches we find in modern cars that have replaced traditional handbrakes.

Even though this car looks somewhat similar to the original Mustang Mach-E, only a few parts from the actual car is carried over to this high-performance one. The Mach-E 1400 has a specially designed chassis and almost all the components found are unique to this car. Most of the panels are made from lightweight carbon fiber and the bonnet is made from organic composite fibres, these are comparatively cheaper to actual carbon fibre.

The car has a 57 kWh battery pack which is smaller than the battery pack the normal Mach-E has, it has a 76 kWh battery. It has a smaller pack because this car is not designed for efficiency, this is made for the track and high-performance stunt shows and is not intended to cover long distances.  The batteries are engineered for rapid power output.

Like the normal Mach-E, even the 1400 HP version can seat four people and has the ability to recharge to 80% in just 30 minutes using the rapid charging facility. Overall this car’s purpose is to be an outrageously attractive marketing campaign by Ford to show the automotive community what they are capable of producing.
