Exemplary safety of Tesla Model X proven again in an unfortunate accident

Tesla’s flagship SUV, the Model X was garnered with high praise when it was launched for its high safety ratings, it is still one of the safest vehicles available on the market. This safety record was however put to test, in a horrific accident that left two people injured. The accident occurred on Route 11, in South Abington Township, Lackawanna County.

The Accident

The whole accident was caught on camera by a commuter on their dash-cam, in the short 34-second clip, it can seen that a white car (Make and Model not clear) slamming into the left rear end of a blue Tesla Model X at a set of traffic lights. The Tesla was stationary and the other car collided at a visibly high speed, after the impact the white car rolled over on its side, it was heavily damaged, meanwhile, the Tesla shot forward. The extend of the damage is not clear on the video, but the front of the white car was mangled beyond recognition, it is safe to say that its driver might have suffered a total loss of his vehicle. The rear three-quarters of Tesla, as seen on the video also took quite the hit and the back end seems to be smashed.

The driver of the white car crawled out the windshield of his wrecked vehicle, according to a new report, he had cuts on hands and shoulders, the woman driving the Tesla remained inside her vehicle until the paramedics arrived at seen, and her injuries are unknown. If we are going by the video, it is clearly the fault of the driver of the white car, he seems to have lost control possibly due to over-speeding.

Model X Accidents and over-the-air (OTA) fixes

The Model X has been involved in many accidents in the past, some of them were unfortunately fatal accidents. Even with the Model X, history has repeated for Tesla when a few of these crashes occurred due to the failure of its famed autopilot system. However, throughout the years it has been in production, the electric car manufacturing company has fixed these issues with over-the-air software updates, Tesla has pioneered the science of updating cars online, this has saved them a lot of time as they mostly don’t have conduct a recall if the vehicles suffer from issues related to its software

Model X safety ratings

The Model X is an outstanding SUV, especially when it comes to the safety front. It created history when it became the first and only SUV to ever receive a 5-star safety rating in every category and sub-category from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Furthermore, it earned a five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP), this is a world-class safety rating. Model X achieved a near-perfect score in the Adult Occupant Protection category, scoring a full 8 out of 8 points on the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier test, and 16 out of 16 possible points on the Side Impact tests.
