The Boring Company is the brainchild of billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk, it’s aim is to reduce traffic in metropolitan cities by constructing subsurface tunnels and developing a fully autonomous and electric transport system that works inside those tunnels. The company has constructed a prototype for testing, located in Hawthorne, California and is being used for research and development of the company’s public transportation systems, Loop and Hyperloop. The other proposed projects by the company are the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop in as you might’ve already guessed, in Las Vegas, then the Dugout Loop in Los Angeles and one on the East Coast which is from Washington D.C to Baltimore.

The company’s CEO Elon Musk has confirmed the use of Tesla Model S, Model X and Model 3 in its upcoming new “Loop“. With more than four projects that are already confirmed, the Boring Company’s vision is becoming a reality. The Goal of these tunnels has been to use autonomous EVs inside them and they will be able to travel even faster inside these tunnels when compared to the “boring” travel on the surface roads.

The Las Vegas Convention Center Loop

The company has also released a few new concept images of three different Boring Company station designs; the first one is a design render of a surface station, then a subsurface station and finally a subsurface open-air station. For the LV Convention Center loop, it was already confirmed that the not-so-boring company would use Tesla vehicles, but they did not specify which Tesla model they would be using for this test or would it even be an existing model build by Tesla.

This company is planning to complete this project by this year-end and to be fully operational by 2021. The first tunnel construction in Las Vegas was completed in February, and the second one was completed in May. Now the work on completing the Loop system’s stations on both ends of the tunnel, and also an underground station in the middle of the system is pending. Furthermore, The Boring Company has also proposed expansions for the LVCC loop to the Las Vegas Airport and the Downtown area.

The company’s official statement about the Tunnel’s operations

The FAQ section of the company has been updated now and it shows information about the vehicles it plans to use on the loop, the company said

“Loop is an all-electric, zero-emissions, high-speed underground public transportation system in which passengers are transported via compatible Autonomous Electric Vehicles (AEVs) at up to 150 miles per hour through Main Artery Tunnels between stations. AEVs are Tesla vehicles (Model S, 3, and X) that operate autonomously within the Loop system”.

The 150 mph speed is however up for debate as the government might be putting their nose into this and may think about implementing speed limits for safety reasons when the project begins its full-fledged operation.

A Tesla Van

During a discussion about an airport-based system in California, similar to one that is planned in Ontario International Airport, a supervisor in San Bernardino County suggested that a 12 passenger all-electric van may also be developed by Tesla to be used in the Loop tunnels.
